After seeking out and listening to many other podcasts of a similar nature to Kinky sex radio, I have a few suggestions and questions to make this a better show.
Copyright issues aside, the relationship between Kinkysexradio and Myspace may be the door for more musical interludes of bands from myspace seeking free exposure. Maybe highlighting a new band and song at the end of every show, especially those that would be good to beat too and linking them in the show notes.
While the labeling of the show files has gotten better, I do believe that it would be worth it to come up with a more comprehensive/ descriptive name for the file other than the number of the show and final. Kinkysexradio007 would be better, or even KSR007. I think it would look better in itunes as well.

in Itunes (and on the Ipod) the file name is, "Kinky Sex Radio - 006 - Dominion is missing! Really."
This is because of id3 tags embedded in the mp3 file itself.
Are you directly downloading the files from the website? I could rename the mp3 files, but I need a way to access them easily and organize them. KSR007 would work for me. Does that work for anyone else?

The problem is threefold:
One, the band HAVE to come from here: http://music.podshow.com/. If they don't, I might get kicked out of iTunes. If your friend has a band, tell them to register with that site THEN contact podcasters. It's a stupid rule, but right now 89% of our listeners are using iTunes. They kind of own the whole playing field.
Two, I don't want to confuse my format. We want to do an NPR style kinky sex show. I think it's annoying when podcasters break up their talk show format with a song. I guess it's because I usually don't like the song. That's a style decision and I might change my mind or be convinced otherwise.
Three, money. Bandwidth costs me money. Adding to the length of the show adds to the bottom line. If I put in music, the KBPS of our show needs to be around 96kbps, currently it's 32kbps. That would triple my bandwidth costs. Music just has higher standards than voice.
Please keep the ideas coming. This kind of feedback is great. Also, feel free to argue with me. I like a good debate!

I agree with you that it is annoying when a podcaster breaks up the show with a song right in the middle of the program, but if you play it at the end of the show, then it feels right to me.
Since the bandwidth issue is more about money than anything else than maybe you should leave music out of it for now...but I think that the inclusion of tracks from kink friendly music at the end of the show would really up the quality. Something to leave out on.
I think it's the mp3 name that I'm talking about, I just saw my itunes downloaded latest episode and the name attached to it.
I'm subscribed on itunes, but I like to download from the site...I guess I should make up my mind.
I don't think that including a song at the end of the show would confuse the format, not too much at least. However, the end decision is yours...or we could put it to a poll.

Count this as a vote against songs. I listen to this program for kinky sex and kinky sex is what i want !!!
the problem with music is that it's so personal. Prof. Tom has mentioned the great opening theme -- but I don't like it. If he starts including music then i'll end up skipping it so i'll end up with a bloated file and more work to do operating the iPod.
An exception might be if a band writes a particularly good song about the joys of rubber bondage, humiliation or shibari, for example. That might be worth having on for the lyrics! |
